About Datadog
Datadog is a SaaS observability platform that brings infrastructure metrics, application traces, logs, real user monitoring, synthetic tests, and security signals into one product. A single Datadog Agent installed on each host or Kubernetes node collects system metrics and forwards data from 1,000+ integrations covering cloud providers, databases, queues, and web servers.
Its strength is correlation: a spike on a dashboard links to the traces, logs, and processes behind it, and APM follows a request across services down to the slow database query. Monitors alert on thresholds or on machine-learning anomaly and forecast detection, and Watchdog surfaces unusual behaviour without a rule being written first. Beyond monitoring, the platform covers cloud security posture, incident management, CI visibility, and LLM observability.
Pricing is per product and per unit: infrastructure monitoring and APM are billed per host, logs per gigabyte ingested and per million events indexed, and so on, with a free plan for up to five hosts and one-day retention. Datadog is fully managed with no self-hosted option, and bills grow quickly with host count and log volume, which is the usual reason teams compare it with Grafana Cloud or open-source stacks.
