About Kitty
Kitty is an open-source, GPU-accelerated terminal emulator that combines SIMD vector rendering and threaded rendering to keep input latency low even under heavy output. Beyond raw speed, it is best known for pushing the terminal protocol itself forward: it originated the Terminal Graphics Protocol for inline image and animation display and a more comprehensive keyboard-handling protocol, both of which other emulators have since adopted.
Extensibility comes through kittens — small Python-based plugins bundled with Kitty for tasks like image viewing, diffing, file selection over SSH, and session management — alongside a full remote-control API that lets scripts drive tabs, layouts, and window state from outside the terminal.
