About ZCode
ZCode is Z.ai's desktop coding agent, an open-source app under Apache-2.0 for macOS, Windows, and Linux (Linux in beta), built around the company's GLM models. It runs Z.ai's own ZCode Agent, tuned for GLM-5.3, with GLM-5.3-Flash built in for screenshot and image understanding. The same app also connects to Anthropic, OpenAI, OpenRouter, Moonshot, MiniMax, Xiaomi MiMo, and any Anthropic- or OpenAI-compatible endpoint, so GLM is the default rather than the only choice.
The agent reads and edits the project, runs commands, drives a browser, and can hand parts of a task to subagents. Its signature feature is Goal Mode: type /goal with a one-sentence objective and the agent keeps working in rounds, checking after each one for real evidence of completion (changed files, command output, passing tests) instead of stopping after a single reply. Project memory, scheduled automations, and remote development over SSH, in WSL, or inside a container round out a setup aimed at long-running work. The public repository also builds a terminal interface and a local web mode.
ZCode has no hosted cloud: the desktop app has to stay on and online while a task runs. Remote Control opens the current workspace in a phone browser, and Bot Channel takes instructions from WeChat or Feishu, but both steer that desktop.
Downloading the app costs nothing, but it has no free usage of its own. The usual way to run it is the GLM Coding Plan, a Z.ai subscription in Lite, Pro, and Max tiers with rolling five-hour and weekly credit limits, cheaper usage outside weekday peak hours, and a discount for yearly billing. The same plan also works in Claude Code, Cline, and OpenCode. Developers who manage their own model access can instead sign in with an API key from any supported provider.
