Scores
Popularity3/5
Well-established enterprise auth provider; used by thousands of companies worldwide.
Learning Curve3/5
Dashboard is intuitive but rules, actions, and token flows require backend auth experience.
Flexibility5/5
Actions, rules, custom domains, and enterprise connections cover almost any auth scenario.
Performance5/5
Globally distributed infrastructure with a 99.99% SLA; sub-100ms token issuance.
Portability2/5

About Auth0
Auth0 is an enterprise authentication and authorisation platform, owned by Okta since 2021. It provides a complete identity service: social login, enterprise single sign-on, multi-factor authentication, passwordless login, and machine-to-machine authorisation, delivered through Universal Login, a hosted, customisable login page that keeps credentials off your own servers.
Teams integrate through SDKs for their frontend and backend frameworks, and Auth0 handles the protocol work (OpenID Connect, OAuth 2.0 with PKCE, token signing and refresh). Actions, serverless JavaScript functions that run at points in the login flow, enrich tokens, block access, or sync users to other systems. Organisations model B2B customers with their own connections, branding, and roles.
It supports a wide range of identity providers, from Google, Apple, and GitHub to SAML, WS-Federation, and LDAP directories, and includes attack protection such as bot detection, breached-password checks, and brute-force limits. Newer features cover authentication for AI agents and fine-grained authorisation.
Pricing is split into B2C and B2B plans, both starting with a free plan for up to 25,000 monthly active users. Essentials adds MFA, role-based access control, and log streaming, Professional adds enhanced attack protection and enterprise MFA, and Enterprise is custom, with B2B plans costing more because they include organisations and enterprise connections. Costs rise quickly with monthly active users on the paid plans, and advanced configurations take time to learn.

Python Web (FastAPI + React)
ProjectA clean separation of concerns: React on the frontend, FastAPI serving a typed REST API, and PostgreSQL for persistent storage (MySQL, MariaDB, and serverless Postgres hosts are also available). Docker keeps environments consistent.
Advanced API (Go)
ProjectA high-performance API stack for advanced engineers. Go handles concurrency, PostgreSQL + Redis back the data layer, Prometheus + Grafana provide observability, and Kubernetes can orchestrate containers as an optional addition.
Tools Related to Auth0
Works well with Auth0(3)
Auth0 supports React Native via the react-native-auth0 SDK — handles OAuth2 device flow, token storage with secure enclave, and biometric login for mobile apps.
Auth0 integrates into Laravel apps via its official PHP SDK, verifying sessions in middleware.
Auth0 can protect Express APIs via the express-oauth2-jwt-bearer middleware — commonly used when an Express API serves an Auth0-authenticated SPA.
Integrates with Auth0(2)
Official @auth0/nextjs-auth0 SDK with session cookies, middleware, and server-side authentication helpers.
Auth0 has an official React SDK — pre-built hooks (useAuth0) and components handle login, logout, and token management; commonly used in React SPAs that need enterprise-grade auth.
Alternatives to Auth0(5)
Both hosted auth-as-a-service platforms; Clerk is newer with better developer UX and prebuilt UI components, Auth0 is enterprise-proven with broader compliance certifications.
Both full-featured hosted auth platforms; Firebase Auth is Google-backed and tied to the Firebase platform, Auth0 is standalone enterprise SaaS.
Keycloak is the self-hosted open-source alternative to Auth0 — provides comparable enterprise IAM features (SSO, SAML, OIDC, MFA) without licensing costs, at the expense of significant operational complexity.
Both support the same auth flows; Supabase Auth is self-hostable and Postgres-native, Auth0 is a mature enterprise SaaS with broader SSO/compliance features.
BetterAuth is the self-hosted open-source alternative to Auth0 — TypeScript-native, no per-MAU pricing, runs inside the application alongside the existing database.
