About Cloudflare
Cloudflare runs one of the world's largest networks, spanning 300+ cities in over 100 countries, and sits in front of websites and APIs as a reverse proxy. Originally known as a CDN and DDoS protection provider, it remains a security-first CDN, DNS, and WAF (Web Application Firewall) platform with bot management and Zero Trust (SASE) security built in. Its Anycast network routes each request to the nearest data center, cutting latency and absorbing attacks close to their source.
Setup usually means moving a domain's DNS to Cloudflare, after which traffic is proxied, cached, and filtered with no changes to the origin server. The free plan covers CDN, unmetered DDoS protection, and universal SSL for any number of sites, which has made Cloudflare a default for everything from personal blogs to enterprise applications.
