About
Render is a fully managed cloud platform built for developers who want simple, Git-driven deployments without the complexity of managing servers or Kubernetes clusters. Connect a GitHub, GitLab, or Bitbucket repository, and Render automatically detects the framework, builds the app, and deploys it — every subsequent push triggers a zero-downtime redeploy.
The platform covers the full stack in one place: web services (always-on HTTP servers), private services (internal microservices not exposed to the internet), background workers (non-HTTP long-running processes), cron jobs (scheduled tasks), static sites (free, CDN-served, no sleep), and managed Postgres and Redis databases. Private networking between services within a project is enabled by default at no extra cost.
Render's free tier allows exploring the platform without a credit card: web services and Postgres are available on free plans, though free web services spin down after 15 minutes of inactivity (30–50 second cold start on next request) and free Postgres instances expire after 30 days. Static sites remain free with no sleep penalty.
Paid web services start at $7/month for 512 MB RAM / 0.5 CPU. Autoscaling is available on paid plans — each additional instance costs the same as the base plan. SSH access is included on all paid instances. Response timeouts up to 100 minutes are supported.
Render targets individual developers, small teams, and startups who want predictable flat-rate billing, zero-downtime deploys by default, and strong Docker support — without the operational overhead of a VPS or Kubernetes cluster.

- Flat-rate pricing avoids surprise usage bills
- Zero-downtime deploys and no scheduled restarts by default
- Private networking between services is free and automatic
- 30–50% cheaper than Heroku for equivalent compute
Cons

- Free Postgres expires after 30 days, then data is deleted after a grace period
- Per-service pricing adds up quickly for multi-service production apps
- Less global deployment flexibility than Fly.io — fewer regions
- Some users report unexpected charges for failed deployments
