About Strapi

Strapi is one of the most widely used open-source headless CMS platforms, written in Node.js with TypeScript. A visual Content-Type Builder lets developers define data models (articles, products, authors, categories), and Strapi generates REST and GraphQL APIs for them, so no boilerplate API code is needed.

Role-based access control governs which roles can read, create, update, or delete each content type from the admin panel. Internationalization is built in, so each entry can have locale-specific versions, and a Media Library handles uploads with provider plugins for S3, Cloudinary, and other storage. Strapi supports PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, and SQLite as its database.

Strapi runs self-hosted (Docker, a VM, or platforms such as Railway and Render) or on Strapi Cloud, the managed service. It takes no position on the frontend: React, Vue, Next.js, Astro, mobile apps, and static site generators all consume the same APIs. The codebase is extensible through custom plugins, middleware, policies, and lifecycle hooks, and a plugin marketplace covers common additions.

The Community Edition is free under the MIT license with unlimited seats and usage. A paid self-hosted Growth plan adds Live Preview, Releases, Content History, and Strapi AI, and Enterprise adds Review Workflows and Audit Logs. Strapi Cloud is priced per project, from Starter to Business, with no free cloud plan.
