Framer

Framer is a visual website builder aimed squarely at designers — its canvas, interaction model, and keyboard shortcuts are intentionally close to Figma, making it the natural next step for designers who want to publish real websites without handing off to a developer.

The design canvas supports free-form layout with auto-layout stacks (similar to Figma's auto-layout), component libraries, shared styles, and a rich set of built-in elements. Designers work at the pixel level with full control over spacing, typography, color, and breakpoints. The published output is React — Framer generates a Next.js-adjacent React application, not static HTML — which enables smooth client-side transitions and animation.

Animations and interactions are a first-class differentiator: scroll-triggered animations, parallax, entrance effects, hover states, and page transitions are all configurable from the canvas without writing code. Framer's animation quality is consistently cited as superior to Webflow for motion-heavy marketing sites.

Framer CMS provides a no-code content management layer for blogs, case studies, team pages, and other structured content. CMS items can be filtered, searched, and paginated, and the CMS is accessible via REST API for headless use cases.

AI features (introduced 2024–2025) include AI-powered page generation from text prompts, AI image generation inside the canvas, and AI copywriting assistance — allowing rapid initial site creation before designers refine the output.

Localization supports multi-language sites with separate content per locale, auto-translation powered by AI, and locale-aware routing.

Framer is intentionally scoped to websites and landing pages — it does not have user authentication, backend logic, or a relational database. For dynamic application features, external tools (Airtable, Notion, custom APIs) are connected via the CMS API or embedded iframes.

Published Framer sites are hosted on Framer's global CDN with automatic SSL, preview deployments per branch (on Pro+), and Google Analytics integration.
