Bubble is a no-code application development platform that allows anyone to build complex, production-grade web applications — without writing code. Unlike website builders (Webflow, Framer), Bubble is designed for applications: multi-sided marketplaces, SaaS products with user accounts and subscriptions, CRMs, internal dashboards, booking systems, and more.
The visual editor operates in three interconnected layers. The Design layer is a drag-and-drop canvas for building responsive UI with a library of elements (inputs, repeating groups, popups, maps). The Data layer is a fully integrated relational-ish database where you define custom data types and fields, set privacy rules, and manage records. The Workflow layer is where business logic lives — event-driven workflows trigger a sequence of actions (run an API call, create a database record, send an email, navigate to a page) without any imperative code.
Workload Units (WU) are Bubble's billing dimension: every server-side operation (page load, database query, workflow step, API call) consumes WUs proportional to its complexity. Free accounts get 50K WU/month; paid plans include higher limits with overage pricing.
Plugins extend Bubble's capabilities with payment processing (Stripe), maps, real-time features, AI integrations, and hundreds of third-party API wrappers available through the official marketplace. The API Connector adds direct REST API access for any external service not covered by a plugin. Both are configured without writing code.
Bubble apps run entirely on Bubble's infrastructure with no code export, which means Bubble handles all hosting, scaling, SSL, and backups automatically. Native mobile app support was added in 2025, allowing publication to the App Store and Google Play from the same Bubble project.
