Webflow

Webflow is a browser-based visual web development platform that lets designers and marketers build production websites without writing code. Unlike page builders that produce bloated markup, Webflow's visual canvas maps directly to CSS — every padding, flexbox alignment, grid column, and transition you set in the UI generates semantic, clean HTML/CSS/JS that a developer would recognise.

The Designer is the core canvas: a drag-and-drop layout editor that exposes the full CSS box model, flexbox, CSS Grid, and custom animations as a visual interface. It's simultaneously more capable and more technical than competitors like Squarespace — you can build arbitrary layouts, but you need to understand CSS concepts like positioning, overflow, and z-index to use it effectively.

The CMS allows content authors to manage structured content (blog posts, team members, products) through a clean editor interface, while designers define the presentation layer separately. CMS collections can be referenced across the site and support filtering, sorting, and multi-reference fields. Webflow CMS also has a REST API for headless use cases.

Interactions and animations are first-class: scroll-triggered animations, hover states, parallax, lottie integration, and page transitions are all buildable in the Designer without JavaScript. Complex micro-interactions that would take hundreds of lines of JS code are configured visually.

E-commerce plans add a product catalog, cart, checkout flow, and inventory management, with Webflow's own transaction fee (waived on higher plans).

Code export (available on Business+ plans) lets developers download clean HTML/CSS/JS and host it anywhere — making Webflow usable as a design-to-code tool in a traditional development workflow.

Webflow Enterprise added SOC 2 compliance, SSO, advanced roles, and a white-labelled editor for clients.

Webflow Workspace plans are separate from Site plans — Workspace plans cover team collaboration features (editors, client seats, project management), while Site plans cover the published website's bandwidth, CMS item limits, and features.
