n8n (pronounced "n-eight-n") is an open-source workflow automation tool built around a visual, node-based editor. Connect 400+ apps and services — or write custom logic in JavaScript/TypeScript nodes — to automate multi-step workflows without managing backend infrastructure.
What distinguishes n8n from Zapier or Make is self-hostability: the full platform runs on your own infrastructure (Docker or Kubernetes), keeping all data inside your perimeter. n8n Cloud provides the same capabilities as a managed service. The Fair-Code licence means self-hosted use is free; cloud hosting and enterprise features are paid.
