About

Adalo is a visual no-code app builder designed for non-technical founders, entrepreneurs, and small teams who want to ship native mobile and web apps without writing code. Builders work on a multi-screen canvas that displays every screen simultaneously, making it easy to visualize an app's full navigation architecture while designing it.

The platform includes a built-in relational database called Collections — structured like a spreadsheet, requiring no SQL knowledge — and connects user actions to logic through a point-and-click visual editor. From a single Adalo project, apps compile and publish to the Apple App Store, Google Play Store, and the web as a PWA simultaneously. The iOS and Android output is a genuine React Native binary compiled through Codemagic infrastructure — not a WebView wrapper — giving apps access to device-level APIs: push notifications, camera, geolocation, and native UI components.

Adalo 3.0, released in late 2025, overhauled the backend infrastructure with a reported 3–4x performance improvement, removed database record limits on paid plans, and eliminated usage-based overage charges. The architecture was redesigned to support apps at 1 million+ monthly active users.

In March 2026, Adalo launched Ada, its unified AI building experience. Magic Start generates a complete multi-screen app — including database tables, screen layouts, and navigation flows — from a plain-language description in seconds. Magic Add extends an existing app by accepting a natural-language description of a new feature and integrating it into the project. The platform also includes X-Ray, a performance auditing tool that identifies bottlenecks in live apps and recommends specific optimizations.

Adalo is cloud-hosted with no self-hosting option. Code export is not available on standard plans — projects and data remain within the platform.

Key Features

  • Visual multi-screen canvas — all app screens visible simultaneously for spatial navigation design
  • Ada AI builder — Magic Start generates a full app from a plain-language prompt; Magic Add extends any existing screen or feature
  • Built-in relational database (Collections) — no SQL required, unlimited records on paid plans
  • Native iOS + Android + web publishing — one project compiles to App Store, Google Play, and PWA
  • 40+ drag-and-drop components — lists, forms, maps, authentication, Stripe payments, push notifications
  • External integrations — Zapier, Xano, Airtable, Google Sheets (SheetBridge), custom REST API actions
  • X-Ray performance auditing — identifies bottlenecks in live apps and suggests targeted fixes

Pros

  • Fastest path to App Store for non-developers — functional prototypes built in hours, published to stores in days without any developer involvement
  • True cross-platform from one build — iOS, Android, and web from a single project and data model
  • Self-contained — built-in database means no external backend service is required to ship a working app
  • Affordable entry for MVPs — cheaper than FlutterFlow or Thunkable for equivalent App Store publishing capability
  • Significant post-3.0 performance gains — 3–4x speed improvement confirmed by community, with no database record limits on paid plans

Cons

  • No code export on standard plans — full vendor lock-in; losing access to your subscription means losing the app
  • Performance degrades with complex data — 3-second+ load times with 2,000+ item lists; Android native still slower than PWA for data-heavy screens
  • Slow customer support on lower tiers — multi-day response times on Starter and Professional; live chat absent
  • Missing standard mobile features — Face ID, SMS messaging, and complex multi-image uploads unavailable or require workarounds
  • True cost higher than advertised — Apple ($99/yr) and Google Play ($25) developer accounts, API service fees, and Marketplace component costs add $200–400/month above plan price
